Lecturer in Creative Writing Dr Paul Johnston has had his story Ulysses of Embra published in the American, British and Canadian Studies, Journal of Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu.
The story is described as ‘a critical day in the life of Leonard Rose, an Edinburgh (Embra) criminal with undertones of Homer’s Odysseus and James Joyce’s Leopold Bloom’.
Available to download, the nine-page text explores the relationships between Leonard, his son Stevie and his ex-wife Penny, who are all connected to local crime kingpin Big Sam.
As well as teaching in the Media and Communication department, Dr Johnston recently chaired a panel featuring bestselling crime writers Mark Billingham, Christopher Brookmyre and Luca Veste in an event held at Waterstones in Liverpool.
