Professor Nicholas Donnelly to join Hope as Head of Psychology

The Psychology department is looking forward to welcoming Professor Nicholas Donnelly as the new Head from September.

Professor Donnelly is currently Director of the Centre for Vision and Cognition, and Head of the School of Psychology at the University of Southampton.

Holding the position for more than ten years, he has had overall responsibility for developing and implementing several strategic initiatives relating to education, research and enterprise in Psychology.

Vice-Chancellor and Rector Professor Gerald J Pillay said: “Professor Donnelly is a seasoned scholar who brings demonstrable excellence in academic leadership, education and research. He is very well recognised in the Psychology community nationally and internationally. For the last couple of years, he has also been our external REF advisor and his input has been invaluable in shaping our own Psychology REF submission, as we prepare to meet our ambitious targets for REF 2021.”

Professor Donnelly has published extensively and has an excellent research record within the field of visual cognition. He has published more than 80 academic papers and developed a number of innovative teaching programmes during his 30-year career.
