Liverpool Hope University will host the UK’s first-ever school Quidditch tournament, which will see eight schools compete in the sport made famous by J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter novels.
Organised by Enrich Education, Quidditch UK and The Quidditch Premier League, the event is the first of its kind and will see two finalists progress to a national final next summer.
Matthew Vaudrey, from Enrich Education, said: “Quidditch is proving really popular with schools. It is a fast, physical, fun sport that engages and encourages all pupils to be active. The potential for the growth of youth Quidditch across the UK is huge and creating opportunities for young people to compete in tournaments, such as this one, is crucial for developing the sport.”
With its Hilda Constance Allen halls of residence affectionately known as the ‘Harry Potter halls’ by students, Liverpool Hope University is the perfect location for this increasingly popular sport.
Since scores of wizarding fans were introduced to Quidditch in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the magical game has become a popular sport across the globe.
Eight schools from across the Merseyside region will attend the tournament at Liverpool Hope University on Friday 9th November.
