Liverpool Hope University is pleased to announce it has joined Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College’s Stella Maris Leadership Award Partnership.
The award is a values-based personal development programme which aims to help sixth form students grow into rounded individuals able to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
It achieves this through a mix of academic and community-based work which teaches students how intellectual, moral, civic and performance virtues can be acquired through deliberate acts.
Under the terms of the new agreement, Liverpool Hope will endorse Notre Dame’s delivery of the Stella Maris Leadership Award for the next two years.
Created by Notre Dame, the award is founded on research from the Catholic Character Education, which shows that character education allows students to flourish and sustain a well-rounded life and thriving society.
The award programme takes a holistic approach to personal development, creating opportunities for students to act and reflect on how they can be the best version of themselves.
This approach shares many similarities with Liverpool Hope’s Service and Leadership Award (SALA), which gives students an opportunity to volunteer in local organisations to help with community-based projects.
With a focus on service to others, SALA runs alongside degrees at Hope and creates opportunities for students to enhance their CV by developing leadership skills, gaining transferrable skills and networking with future employers.
Professor Claire Ozanne, Vice-Chancellor of Liverpool Hope University, said: “Liverpool Hope and Notre Dame have a shared commitment to nurturing well-rounded students so we are delighted to be joining the Stella Maris Leadership Award Partnership.
“This collaboration reinforces our dedication to fostering resilience and reflexivity and promoting the value of service to others as we seek to develop the leaders of tomorrow.”
Notre Dame Principal, Justine Barlow, added: “We are pleased that we can work with Liverpool Hope to support our values driven personal development leadership programme and look forward to working with them in the future.”
