I am Associate Professor in Art History and have overall responsibility for the delivery of Art & Design History at Liverpool Hope Previously, I ran the MA Art History & Curating. I specialise in nineteenth-century British art and contemporary visual culture. My research focuses on nineteenth-century representations of reading practices (especially women's), Pre-Raphaelitism, representations of Pygmalion in the nineteenth century and feminist theory in relation to contemporary visual culture.

Prior to taking up post at Liverpool Hope University, I worked at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery as a researcher on their major award-winning online resource for Pre-Raphaelite studies - http://www.preraphaelites.org/ - and have taught at the University of Birmingham, Coventry University, Birmingham City University and the Open University.

I have edited two important essay collections: firstly Pre-Raphaelite Masculinities: Constructions of Masculinity in Art and Literature (with Serena Trowbridge, 2014) and secondly Picturing the Reader: Reading and Representation in the Long Nineteenth Century (with Beth Palmer, 2022).

I have reviewed articles for journals such as Nineteenth Century Studies, 19 and Journal of Victorian Culture, and book manuscripts for publishers such as Routledge and Palgrave Macmillan, as well as applications to research funding councils.
