Associate Professor Omar Mashjari

Omar Mashjari is Head of the School of Law and Criminology at Liverpool Hope University and an Associate Professor of Law. He earned his PhD in International Competition Law from the University of Leeds, a Master of Laws (with Distinction) from the University of Law, and a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours) from the University of Liverpool. Omar was the recipient of the prestigious Full Leeds Research Scholarship and is a Fellow of the Royal Society for Arts (FRSA).

 

Omar previously served as the Associate Director of Academic Enhancement and the Student Journey in the College of Business and Law at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), having held the position of Associate Head of Department at Bristol Law School before. He also acted as the Director of Global Engagement at the University of Westminster and has expertise in student growth, internationalisation and postgraduate programmes. 

 

A qualified solicitor in England and Wales, Omar practised corporate and commercial law and trained at an international law firm. He is also an accredited Civil and Commercial Law Mediator (CMC). His strategic leadership skills have earned him the Chartered Manager status (CMgr FCMI) and a Fellowship from the Chartered Management Institute. 

 

Omar is also a Senior Fellow of AdvanceHE (SFHEA) and holds a PG Certificate in Teaching and Learning from the University of Westminster. He currently serves as an External Examiner for the University of York, having held a similar role at Manchester Metropolitan University.  His dedication to teaching excellence has been recognised, including being awarded the Competition Law HE Lecturer of the Year by the Legal Awards 2022.

 
Most recently, the Office of Students (OfS) appointed him a Quality Assessor tasked with ensuring the quality and standards of higher education in England. Reflecting his commitment to advancing racial equality and diversity, Omar led the development of the UK's first investment bank for minority-ethnic businesses, having been appointed to the Development Board of the Liverpool City Region’s Race Equality Hub.
