I am a senior lecturer in sociology at Liverpool Hope University where I teach across all levels and coordinate the MA programme in Sociology and Social policy. My undergraduate and taught postgraduate degrees are in social psychology and cultural studies from Roskilde University Denmark, after which I spent 6 years at the University of Sarajevo, working as a research and teaching assistant at the Institute for Research of Crimes against Humanity and International Law. I obtained my doctoral degree in 2014 from the University of Leeds on the topic 'Genocide and Modernity: A Comparative Study of Bosnia, Rwanda and the Holocaust '.

My field of research is focused around the complex relationship between modernity and violence, including modern and postcolonial genocide as well as the political economy of genocide. I am particularly interested in the persistence of colonial identity categories and colonial structures in the world periphery and the role these play in the re-emergence of ethnic violence. At the moment I am also conducting research on the geo-politics of the Covid-19 pandemic in the Western Balkans.
