Prior to joining Liverpool Hope University in 2014, I spent twenty years working in strategic tourism development - ten years covering the North West of England and then ten years specifcally in Liverpool City Region. I therefore have an in-depth background in most aspects of tourism development including: strategy and policy development; funding bids and appraisals; advocacy (at local and national levels); business support and development; stakeholder development and engagement; tourism planning, and cross-sectoral partnership working. I currently teach across a broad range of themes including tourism and tourism management, contemporary human geographies (urban regeneration in particular), environmental policy, planning and management, and lead on experiential learning and a variety of external engagement activities within the department. All of this enables me to blend industry experience directly into the courses to complement taught theory, and to facilitate curriculum linked field work around the North West of England and beyond.
