A reflection of culture, creativity and collaboration for summer study abroad programmes

Students gathered on stage to present their creative work.

This summer, Liverpool Hope University welcomed students from around the world to campus for an unforgettable academic and cultural journey as part of its 2025 Summer Study Abroad programme.

Spanning May until August the programme offered a unique blend of academic exploration, hands-on learning, and rich cultural immersion. The programme welcomed over 100  students across two cohorts, with participants representing partnered institutions in the US, Mexico, and India.

Students took part in a wide range of courses designed to broaden their knowledge while embracing real-world application. Academic sessions varied from Finance, Marketing, Economics to Art, Music and History.

Students were offered subject options specific to their own areas of interest, combining local knowledge and history into practical, cultural education. Subjects included; Liverpool and the Arts, Human Kinesiology, English Schools and Teacher Education, Life and Culture in the UK, The Beatles as Musicians and Applied Psychology.

Dr Isaac Adebiyi, Lecturer in Business Management, reflected, “It has been a pleasure to coordinate the teaching and across both academic blocks, students were offered several subject options, with each course designed to combine academic depth with practical and creative expression.”

Beyond the classroom

The summer experience is an enriching programme that goes beyond the lecture theatre. Students enjoyed three weeks living in UK campus halls and kicked off with an orientation, including a campus and city tour in the wonderful city of Liverpool. The University’s Global Centre organised cultural trips including visits to Chester, London, the Royal Albert Dock, Liverpool museums and galleries, and Anfield Stadium. Students were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the premiere league trophy during the LFC’s title celebrations. Many students ventured beyond Liverpool on weekends, travelling independently to destinations like Spain and Dublin.

Social events such as welcome pizza parties and a celebratory closing ceremony helped foster strong connections between students and staff. Meanwhile, consistent wellbeing support ensured students felt at home and empowered throughout their stay.

One student Nick, from Susquehanna University, Pennsylvania summed up his experience; “Studying at Liverpool Hope University has been such an extraordinary experience. I took part in two academic courses and an internship, working with the Global Centre and Events & Conferences Team. I engaged with cultural activities in the city, met fellow students, explored campus life, and built connections with extraordinary staff who made this experience so positive and supportive.” Nick left with such a strong impression that he decided he wants to study a Master’s Degree here once he has wrapped up his studies!

Liverpool Hope University’s Summer Schools continue to grow in ambition and impact. From academic enrichment to cultural immersion and personal development.
