Earlier this month, Liverpool Hope University unveiled the Courtyard Gallery at its Hope Park campus.
This collaborative project between Creative Campus staff and students, and the offices of the Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor saw students submit artworks for display. The open call to students encouraged them to explore the fascinating historical significance of the HCA Building corridor and courtyard space.
During the Second World War, staff and students were evacuated to the Lake District, allowing the college, as it was at that time, building to function as a hospital for injured servicemen. In addition, students were also invited to respond to the beauty and tranquility of the courtyard area and, in consideration of the wartime history of the site, respond to the process of healing and the power of colour and nature as a therapeutic tool.
Students, staff, family and friends were invited to a formal opening of the gallery, and prizes were awarded on the evening.
The University would like to extend its thanks to all those who contributed.
