The Faculty of Business, Law and Criminology at Liverpool Hope University is continuing to strengthen its regional partnerships through the successful delivery of Civil Service Masterclasses aimed at supporting people back into employment across the Liverpool City Region.

Led by Lyndsey Jayne Burkert, the initiative has created a collaborative partnership between the Business School, training providers and Civil Service departments to support local skills development and employment opportunities in the North West.

The masterclasses are delivered in partnership with Lynn Lock from Unique and Special Projects, who has worked extensively to develop a programme tailored to the recruitment needs of the Civil Service while helping candidates return to the workplace.

Over the last 18 months, Lynn and her team have facilitated and delivered the Civil Service Masterclasses at the Liverpool Hope Business School Hub, achieving an impressive 90 per cent success rate of candidates progressing into employment within Civil Service departments across the North West.

The Business School has supported the programme by providing dedicated space and facilities for the training, creating an important partnership between higher education, industry training providers and the Civil Service in support of the Liverpool City Region’s wider skills agenda.

The programme also offers participants the opportunity to complete their training within a university environment, helping attendees learn more about university-level opportunities while preparing for employment. Successful participants are guaranteed access to a Civil Service interview and job opportunity within the North West.

The initiative demonstrates the power of partnership working, bringing together education providers, employers and training specialists to create accessible opportunities for local communities seeking to re-engage with the labour market.

Civil Service representatives have played a key role in shaping the content and delivery of the masterclasses, with departments including the Department for Work and Pensions, Home Office, Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and HM Revenue and Customs now accessing talent developed through the programme.

The partnership has also created opportunities for Liverpool Hope graduates. Three alumni from the University who were seeking employment were able to complete the training programme and have since secured opportunities within the Civil Service.

As one of the first initiatives of its kind in the Liverpool City Region, the programme highlights the importance of collaborative working and the positive impact partnerships can have on local communities and future graduates considering careers within the Civil Service.
