Liverpool Hope University’s 2023 summer graduation ceremonies commenced today, as hundreds of students turned out in their cap and gown to celebrate their academic achievements.

Three days of celebrations kicked off on Tuesday 18 July as graduates from across the UK and beyond collected their degree certificates in front of their families and friends at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral.

The day began at the University’s Hope Park campus in Childwall, where final-year students attended a service of thanksgiving before toasting their success at a drinks reception with their tutors from their School or Department.

The much-loved hat throw and group photo followed in the picturesque Library Quad before students headed to the Cathedral to formally complete their time at the University.

And, as our graduates prepare to embark on the next phase of their lives, this landmark day was a moment to reflect on the experiences and people which made their time at University so special.

“It feels great to be graduating,” said Charlotte Peacock, a Philosophy, Ethics and Religious Studies graduate who is now set to embark on a role as a Student Engagement Officer at the University.

“It’s been such a good a day and it’s like a community here. I’ve had the best time, met the best people and my tutors have all been amazing.”

Marketing and Sociology graduate, Hannah Hopkins, was in agreement and is hoping that the experiences she’s enjoyed as part of her course will set her up for her dream career as a marketer.

“It has gone so quick but I had the best time so I am very grateful [to the University],” she added.

“You can get all the help you need here and it’s been such a great experience. I had the opportunity on my course to do a placement with Marketing Liverpool so now I am hoping to begin a career in the marketing industry.”

Addressing the class of 2023, Vice-Chancellor Professor Claire Ozanne, praised the determination of a cohort who overcame the challenge of studying through several lockdowns.

“There will have been moments I am sure when you may have felt like giving up, but you have fought through and worked hard to reach this point,” she said.

“You have demonstrated your extraordinary resilience and immense adaptability. This dedication will put you in good stead for the future and today’s celebration offers you the chance to reflect on and celebrate all that you have achieved.”
