Denise Barrett-Baxendale MBE, Visiting Professor of Leadership in Sport Serving Humanity, will deliver her Inaugural Professorial Lecture in the EDEN Lecture Theatre on Wednesday 11th April at 5pm.
Professor Barrett-Baxendale, who is Executive Chair of Everton in the Community and Director at Everton Football Club, will discuss Modern Day Football Social Schemes: Sport at the Service of Humanity or Superficial Social Alibi?.
Speaking about the theme of the lecture, Professor Barrett-Baxendale said: “This lecture explores modern day football social schemes, the principal point for consideration being whether there is genuine integrity, authenticity and goodwill in the apparent altruism of modern day football, or whether this is just a sinister disguise to mask the excesses of the modern game; a cynical counter-balance to its decadence and disconnection from those who stimulate its commercial success."
Professor Barrett-Baxendale was appointed to the Business School in November 2016, and a unique research partnership soon followed between the University and the Club. The University’s research and analysis will support the Club to further develop its knowledge in corporate and performance spheres, technology development and governance, all of which will be beneficial in taking future strategies forward.
