Fine & Applied Arts’ Jason Jones donates artwork to Broadgreen Hospital

Artwork hanging on the wall with two people proudly smiling in front of it

Artwork produced by Fine and Applied Arts Technical Manager Jason Jones has gone on display at Liverpool’s Broadgreen Hospital.

Jason, who underwent treatment at the hospital, donated the piece as a thank you for the care and support he received during his time as an outpatient in the Therapies Department.

Entitled Beneath, the painting now hangs on the main corridor of the department, after it was presented to Andy – the Physiotherapist who treated Jason.

Beneath is part of a wider collection of work completed between August and December 2018 following an eight-year absence from Jason’s art practice.

Jason originally envisaged his return to painting as a slow process of re-education and recapturing techniques once developed before building a themed body of work. What quickly emerged was a start of a new collection reflecting his thoughts and aspirations developed during the eight-year period.

The approach of these new paintings draws upon inspiration of and compositional studies of the epic biblical paintings by John Martin, atmospheric sci-fi film noir cinematography, emotional responses to musical compositions, and most importantly, the process of and response within the act of applying paint - paintings about painting.

Beneath was first exhibited at the Corke Gallery in Liverpool from December 2018 to January 2019 and has since been shown within the virtual galleries at www.jasonjonesart.uk.
