Lib Dem Councillor for Cressington visits Hope

Lib Dem Councillor for Cressington

Liverpool Hope University was delighted to welcome Lib Dem Councillor for Cressington, Cllr Richard Clein in March.

The talk was organised by the teaching team on Hope’s and the Student Futures team, including the student development and employability team.

The session forms part of a series – Professionals in Politics and International Relations - in which Hope students are given an insight into world and local politics. These guest lectures aim to inspire the next generation of political and international relations' practitioners, while providing access to the knowledge and expertise which will help them as they look to forge a career in the industry.

Mr Clein discussed his career journey, starting in PR as a founder of Boxed Off Communications Ltd, later becoming Lib Dem Councillor for Cressington working in local politics. Students learned about his responsibilities, the work he does and how to make the most of transferable skills to forge a career in the sector.

“This is a great opportunity for students to think about their own professional journey from those working in our field,” said Dr Catalina Montoya Londono, Academic Lead of History, Politics and International Relations in the School of Humanities.

Chris Biggs, the University’s Head of Student Development and Employability added, “It is important for students to hear from professionals working in sectors that are relevant to their subjects. We aim to encourage students to learn more, be curious and explore all potential career options.

“The Professionals in Politics series allows students to hear from a diverse range of people and professions who have had different career journeys. This helps provide some realism about the labour market and also inspires and informs their own career choices and pathways.”
