Liverpool remembers at Armistice evening of music and reflection

Group of people attend armistice event

A very special evening of music and reflection brought the people of Liverpool together to commemorate 100 years since the end of the First World War.

Armistice 100 – Liverpool Remembers was hosted by the Museum of Liverpool and organised by Head of the School of Creative and Performing Arts Professor Stephen Davismoon.

The event featured music composed by Professor Davismoon, performances by the University’s choir Voices of Hope, and a reading by Liverpool Hope University’s Vice-Chancellor and Rector Professor Gerald Pillay.

Voices of Hope performed Keep the Home Fires Burning, The Blue Bird and Rest, while Professor Pillay read We Will Remember Them and For the Fallen.

Professor Davismoon, who curated the music featured, said: “The event consisted of music deeply connected to the First World War, and these were interspersed with very brief, but moving readings that often mentioned young soldiers who served with the Kings Regiment Liverpool. Many of the readings, which were curated by Karen O’Rourke of the Museum of Liverpool, were delivered by descendants, which made them doubly moving.”

The sell-out event saw people travel from across the UK to attend, and marks a new partnership with the Museum of Liverpool.
