Liverpool Hope University is the top modern university in the North West for academic support and ranks first in Liverpool for assessment and feedback according to the 2023 National Student Survey (NSS).

Commissioned annually by the Office for Students (Ofs), the NSS asks final year undergraduates to provide feedback about their courses and their broader experience of university life.

Liverpool Hope ranked first amongst post-1992 institutions in the North West for academic support and is second overall in the region in the same category, which surveys students on their contact with staff and the advice and guidance they receive in relation to their course.

The University also came out on top in Liverpool for assessment and feedback, which measures student thoughts on the fairness of marking and assessments, the timeliness of feedback and how helpful comments about their work have been in enabling them to develop and excel.

Professor Claire Ozanne, Vice-Chancellor of Liverpool Hope University, said: “I am delighted to see that we have scored positively in these key areas of this year’s NSS.

“To be recognised as the top modern university in the North West for academic support and to rank first in Liverpool for assessment and feedback is really encouraging. We pride ourselves on our personal approach to higher education and the level of support we provide to our students, so it is fantastic to see that reflected in these results.

“I must express my thanks to my colleagues from across the University whose hard work has contributed to these positive scores, as well as the students who took the time to share their feedback.”

Managed independently by Ipsosi, the NSS gathers students’ opinions on the quality of their course which helps to inform prospective students’ choices and provide data that helps universities improve the student experience.

Following a review of the NSS, the 2023 edition questions and response scales have changed, which means universities are unable to directly compare their progress against previous results.
