A new internship programme brings student athletes and sports science students together in a unique peer-to-peer training scheme.
Established by Dr James Malone and Dr Peter Angell, the Strength and Conditioning Internship aims to provide students with vocational training in the area of athlete preparation and performance.
A select group of interns were chosen to work with the University’s sports teams and athlete scholars, who compete at national and international levels.
Students are given real-life exposure to learning practice through both practical and theoretical training, as well as the opportunity to enhance their CV and craft skills.
Meanwhile, student athletes receive individualised strength and conditioning plans to enhance their performance, and exposure to expert advice they may not otherwise have access to.
Among those taking advantage of the programme are the Student Union’s rugby teams.
