Professor David Bolt has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of the Oxford Research Encyclopedia in Disability Studies.

Published by Oxford University Press, the Oxford Research Encyclopedias (OREs) are dynamic digital publications offering long-form overview articles written, peer-reviewed, and edited by the world’s leading scholars and researchers.

Disability studies has recently been added to the OREs list of 25 subject modules, with Professor Bolt selected to lead the output in this area by Oxford University Press’ delegates and the OREs’ internal committee.

A Professor of Disability Studies and Interdisciplinarity in the School of Social Science, Professor Bolt is the Course Leader of the Disability Studies MA and the Director of the Centre for Culture & Disability Studies at Liverpool Hope University.

In his new role he is aiming to make a significant contribution to the exploration and expansion of disability studies along the lines of internationality, intersectionality, and interdisciplinarity.

He hopes to use this role to help get disability studies recognised within areas of academia that have previously been resistant, such as where disability is deemed synonymous with needs rather than knowledge.

Commenting on his appointment, Professor Bolt said: “I was pleased to learn about the Oxford Research Encyclopedia in Disability Studies and all the more so when considered for the post of Editor-in-Chief.

“I find myself in the proud and exciting position of leading the project, about to appoint an international editorial board and group of area advisors to curate the content and authorship.

“Most of all I am looking forward to using this resource in my own teaching and research.”
