A music professor at Liverpool Hope University has joined an international music publisher that will provide opportunities for his work to be distributed across the globe.
Professor Stephen Davismoon, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Creative Arts and Humanities, has become a member of Composers Edition, an independent publishing enterprise for composers, performers and champions of contemporary music-making.
He is now part of a community of more than seventy composers and other rights-holders from across Europe, North America and Australasia and a selection of his chamber works have been made available via Composers Edition, with further releases due out in the coming months.
Professor Davismoon has recently been commissioned by Seton Hall University, New Jersey (USA), to compose a new work for choir and piano setting poems by the American author Paul Auster and two short works for a brass quartet are also set to feature in the May 2024 release of Goodwin Island, a new film by Erik Knudsen.
He is due to premiere Il Guido, for flute and live electronics, in a recital by Italian flautist Roberto Fabbriciani at the Capstone Theatre on Friday 8 March. The latest in a series of collaborations with Fabbriciani, it will be featured on his forthcoming album of flute music which will be released later in 2024.
“I am deeply excited to be joining Composers Edition; an extraordinarily innovative initiative – a company whose mission is to publicise, sustain and develop the compositional imaginings of so many varied creative voices,” said Professor Davismoon.
“Within the first couple of days of joining what feels to be a very open-minded company, I felt immediately supported in a very friendly, patient but professional manner.
“I feel honoured to be keeping such lofty company with the other composers they represent. The last few months that I took to work upon the finalising of the scores for this initial set of pieces to be placed with Composers Edition has been deeply pleasurable, bringing back some wonderful memories.
“I very much look forward to placing my entire body of work with them over the months to come and hopefully, with their support, find more audiences for my music.”
