UNeECC International Co-ordinators Meeting

Liverpool Hope hosted the second UNeECC International Co-ordinators’ Meeting, which followed an earlier meeting held at the University of Avignon in 2010.

It was attended by delegates from Belgium (Leuven), the Czech Republic (West Bohemia, Pilsen), France, (Avignon), Hungary (Pecs and Szechenyi), Malta and the United Kingdom. In addition, inputs from Luxembourg and Romania were achieved through Skype. The meeting was also attended by International Co-ordinators from the University of Chester and Liverpool John Moores University.

The meeting was opened by the Liverpool Hope's Vice-Chancellor & Rector Professor Gerald Pillay, and was hosted by Dr Wendy Bignold and UNeECC’s Vice President Bill Chambers. During the two days, all delegates made presentations describing their universities and outlining the outcomes they hoped to achieve. They also enjoyed a tour of the city, including visits to Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields and John Lennon’s house; discussed exchanges and research collaboration with members of the Hope's departments of Fine & Applied Art (Janice Egerton), Drama, Dance & Performance Studies (Niamh Malone) and Geography & Environmental Sciences (Janet Speake, Steve Fowler and Victoria Kennedy); as well as current exchange students at Hope. 

In addition, Professor Laszlo Komlosi, UNeECC Vice President, explained the history of UNeECC and Dr Glen Farrugia, University of Malta, outlined the forthcoming UNeECC Annual Conference to be held in Valletta, Malta on 7th – 9th November 2018. The title of the 12th UNeECC Conference is Culture: Invented or Inherited? Applications for attendance are now open and all are invited to propose papers for consideration by the Scientific Committee

Also during the meeting, Liverpool Hope's David Sennett described the University's plans to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Liverpool’s Capital of Culture Year, by holding a Conference for Young Leaders, entitled , which is to be held between 13th and 20th June 2018. All UNeECC universities were invited to send faculty and student delegates.
