SCONUL Access

Depending on the time of year, our libraries have different opening hours, see below left for the latest opening hours. We may also not allow SCONUL visitors access to the library during the assessment and examination period mid-April-June.

The SCONUL Access scheme allows staff and students from other academic institutions, that are part of the scheme, to have access to Liverpool Hope’s Libraries.

Part-time, distance learners, taught postgraduates, PGCE, academic staff and research postgraduate students

Visitor membership is offered to these categories which will allow you to borrow up to three items at any one time.

On your first visit, which should be during full-service hours, you will need to bring:

  • your SCONUL access acceptance email (obtained from the Library of your home institution when you applied online)
  • proof of your address eg header of a recent utility bill
  • your home institution student card
  • passport-sized photograph

Your SCONUL application will take 2/3 working days to be processed.

Due to licensing restrictions, we are unable to give access to IT facilities. If you are from a Higher Education institution that is part of the Eduroam scheme, you will be able to access WiFi from your mobile device. However, you must set up Eduroam on your device at your home institution before you visit Liverpool Hope. Please note, this will not give you access to Liverpool Hope online resources.

SCONUL Application Form

Before we can process your application, we also require proof of ID, proof of address, a passport style photograph and your SCONUL acceptance email. Please email this to materialdelivery@hope.ac.uk.

All users are expected to abide by the Code of Considerate Behaviour. Anyone who does not abide by these may have their membership and access withdrawn.

Although external users are welcome, the library’s main focus is to support the students and staff of Liverpool Hope University and so not all facilities are available to visitors. For example, access to computers, online resources, printing and photocopying, or use of group study spaces and study carrels, is reserved for Liverpool Hope users.

You may bring children when visiting the library but they should only be in the library for short periods of time, for example to collect or return some books and should avoid the Silent and Quiet Study areas. An adult must be supervising the child at all times, and under 16s must leave the library by 9pm. If the child is disturbing other library users you could be asked to leave the library.

For more information about the scheme, visit the SCONUL Access website.
