First year Creative and Performing Arts students and final year Drama students have been running with wolves in Sutton Manor.
Angela Carter’s The Company of Wolves has been given a dynamic adaptation by outdoor promenade theatre company Burn the Curtain, who create performances to be literally followed by their audiences. Students from the Department of Drama, Dance and Performance have been performing alongside the company, acquiring new experiences and skills as performers.
The students were joined by Matthew Medovnikov, a year 11 student on a theatre work placement with us from Brine Leas Academy School in Nantwich, Cheshire. He thoroughly enjoyed this experience as the fourth production project of his placement at Hope, saying that it had really expanded his ideas of what theatre could be.
The Head of Department Professor Simon Piasecki and the Administrator for Fine and Applied Arts Ms Sioux McGee, joined the audience of runners, covering 4.5 miles during the show and enjoying every second of it. The company also visited the Department, talking to students about the challenges and joys of this form of staging, as well as providing advice about future careers in the arts.
The collaboration was organised by Lecturer in Drama and Performance Dr Kris Darby, who is researching into the ways in which mobile audiences encounter performances.
