About the Course

Our comprehensive curriculum covers key areas essential for a successful career in strength and conditioning, including exercise physiology, biomechanics, injury prevention and rehabilitation, performance testing, and athlete monitoring. Through our core modules, you will gain an in-depth understanding of how the human body responds to and adapts to different forms of exercise, enabling you to design and implement effective, evidence-based training programs tailored to the needs of athletes and clients.
We believe that real-world experience is crucial for developing expertise. Our program offers extensive hands-on learning opportunities, including laboratory work, and practical sessions. You will work with state-of-the-art equipment and the latest technologies to monitor and analyse athletic performance, ensuring you are well-prepared for the demands of the industry.
Curriculum Overview
The programme offers an interdisciplinary curriculum that integrates scientific underpinning with applied practice. Through a combination of online lectures and in-person practical sessions, you will develop both the theoretical knowledge and practical proficiency expected of a professional strength & conditioning or rehabilitation practitioner.
Modules
Applied Strength & Conditioning
This module will develop your understanding of applied S&C theory and its application, alongside developing technical and coaching skills and knowledge aligned with professional accreditations
Scientific Principles of Strength & Conditioning
Through this module you will develop a systematic and critical understanding of the biomechanical and physiological principles of S&C. You will also enhance your ability to integrate data to inform applied practice.
Rehabilitation & Athlete Monitoring
In this module, you will develop a systematic understanding of monitoring methods and techniques for training and performance. You will also develop evidence-based strategies for management of injury rehabilitation whilst integrating professional practice skills in an applied context.
Professional Practice
Develop your professional practice through advancing relevant coaching related skills and self-reflection whilst also developing a critical understanding of the professional roles, responsibilities and ethical standards relevant to the profession.
Research Methods
Through this module, you will develop your ability to evaluate and apply a range of research methodologies and techniques vital to performing and interpreting research. In addition, it will equip you with the skills for data management and processing whilst ensuring your ability to execute rigorous, ethically sound research and performance interventions.
Dissertation
This module is an opportunity for you to conduct an independent research investigation, utilising contemporary techniques to answer a question pertinent to the field of S&C and rehabilitation, guided by experts in the field.
Entry Requirements
A minimum of a Second-Class Honours degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Sport & Exercise Science, Strength & Conditioning, Sports Rehabilitation) awarded by a UK university, or an equivalent higher education qualification.
Applicants with alternative qualifications or relevant professional experience will be considered on an individual basis.

Teaching and Research
Teaching
In the school of Health and Sports Sciences, you will be taught by a team of experts with significant experience in the field of strength, conditioning, and rehabilitation.
Teaching is delivered through a combination of live and pre-recorded online lectures via the virtual learning environment, offering flexibility for students balancing study with other commitments.
Intensive on-campus practical days at the Hope Park Campus, enabling you to develop technique, coaching skills, and assessment competencies using industry-standard equipment.
Research
The School of Health and Sport Sciences is a dynamic, interdisciplinary research hub. Our work spans fundamental investigations into physiology, metabolism, and musculoskeletal function, applied studies that enhance athletic performance and inform clinical practice, and research into the behavioural and experiential responses of individuals to exercise, rehabilitation, and health interventions.
By combining expertise in exercise physiology, nutrition, motor control, and rehabilitation, we tackle real-world challenges using experimental, clinical, and translational approaches. Our research generates evidence-based insights that advance understanding of human health, improve patient and athlete outcomes, and drive innovation across sport and healthcare.
Through your dissertation project, you will be guided by an expert within the field and be able to contribute to the ever-evolving research environment of the school.
