CHILDHOOD & YOUTH

If you're passionate about understanding the lives of children and young people and want to make a positive difference, our Childhood & Youth BA (Hons) gives you the knowledge and skills to explore the issues shaping childhood today. You'll study topics including children's rights, social justice, poverty, inequality, mental health, identity and wellbeing, examining how children's experiences differ across the UK and around the world. 

Taught by a research-informed, value-led and practice-experienced academic team, you'll develop as a confident, reflective and ethically minded graduate. You'll explore childhood and youth through a range of disciplines, including sociology, politics, history, social policy and cultural studies, while building practical research skills that prepare you for your future career. 

Throughout the course, you'll investigate real-world challenges facing children and young people, gaining the critical thinking and analytical skills employers value. Graduates are well prepared for careers across education, youth and community work, local government, health, housing and the voluntary sector, with many choosing to continue their studies through postgraduate qualifications such as Social Work or Teaching. 

EARLY CHILDHOOD

If you want to understand how children learn, grow and thrive during their earliest years, our BA Early Childhood gives you the knowledge and experience to make a real difference. You'll explore child development, play, learning, health and wellbeing, children's rights, and the impact of social inequality, gaining a deeper understanding of the factors that shape young children's lives in the UK and around the world. 

You'll be taught by a research-informed, multidisciplinary team with expertise in education, sociology, psychology and philosophy, learning from academics whose work influences policy and professional practice. Guest speakers, field visits and access to Liverpool's rich network of community organisations will bring your learning to life. A supportive learning environment, small-group teaching and dedicated academic guidance will help you develop confidence needed for working with young children. You’ll graduate with the knowledge, research skills and experience needed for careers supporting children and families, or for postgraduate study in areas such as teaching, social work and early years practice.
