Installing Software

The University is improving how software is delivered to staff Windows computers. To provide a more secure, stable, and consistent experience, all University-managed Windows devices now come with a minimum software base image. This base image includes essential applications and tools required for day-to-day work.

Additional software is now delivered through a more flexible and user-friendly method: the Company Portal app.

What’s Included in the Base Image?

All new and rebuilt University Windows devices come with a standard set of core applications, such as:

  • Windows 11
  • Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams etc.)
  • Microsoft Edge

This core set ensures your device is secure and ready for productive use right out of the box.

Installing Additional Software

If you need software that is not included in the base image, you can easily install approved applications yourself using the Company Portal.

How to Use the Company Portal

  • Open the Start Menu
  • Search for “Company Portal” and open the app
  • Browse or search for the software you need
  • Select the app and click Install
  • The software will install automatically – no admin rights required

Installing Adobe Applications

To install Adobe software such as Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, or other Creative Cloud apps, you must follow an additional step:

  • Install Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop
    • Open the Company Portal
    • Search for “Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop”
    • Click Install
  • Sign in to Adobe Creative Cloud
    • Once installed, launch the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop app
    • Sign in using your Liverpool Hope account
    • The app will load your Adobe-licensed applications
  • Install Adobe Apps
    • Browse the list of available Adobe applications inside Creative Cloud
    • Click Install for the apps you need (e.g., Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator

Need Software That’s Not in the Portal?

If the software you require is not listed:

  • Check whether an alternative is available in the Company Portal.
  • Submit a request via the IT Services Help Desk (itshelp@hope.ac.uk).
  • The IT team will review the request and if approved, will make the software available through the Company Portal or visit to install the software manually.
