Health Commitment Statement and Readiness to Exercise

Health Commitment Statement

As an individual, you are responsible for your own health and wellbeing. The staff at Hope Park Sports are committed to helping you enjoy being active while using the facilities we provide. With this in mind, we have carefully considered what we can reasonably expect of each other.

Our commitment to you

  • We will respect your personal decisions and allow you to decide what exercise you are able to carry out. However, we ask that you do not exercise beyond what you consider to be your own abilities.
  • We will make every reasonable effort to ensure our equipment and facilities are maintained in a safe condition for you to use and enjoy.
  • We will take all reasonable steps to ensure that our staff are appropriately qualified to fitness industry standards.
  • If you inform us that you have a disability that places you at a substantial disadvantage when accessing our equipment or facilities, we will consider what reasonable adjustments may be made.

Your commitment to us

  • You should not exercise beyond your own abilities. If you know, or are concerned, that you have a medical condition that might interfere with you exercising safely, you should seek advice from a relevant medical professional before using our equipment and facilities and follow that advice.
  • You should familiarise yourself with any rules and instructions and watch our gym induction video before using the facilities. Exercise carries inherent risks and you should not undertake activities that you have been advised are not suitable for you.
  • You must use equipment properly and as instructed. You accept that Liverpool Hope University is not liable for any loss, serious injury, or death resulting from negligence on your part when using the equipment and facilities.
  • You should inform staff immediately if you feel unwell when using the equipment or facilities. There will always be a first-aid trained staff member available within the Sports Centre.
  • Members are requested to report promptly any damage to equipment, or any equipment they believe to be unsafe, for health and safety purposes.

Readiness to Exercise

At Hope Park Sports, we encourage everyone to enjoy regular physical activity while staying safe. For most people, becoming active is both safe and beneficial; however, some individuals may wish to consult their doctor before starting a new exercise programme.

Please read the following questions carefully. If you answer YES to one or more questions, we ask that you speak to your doctor BEFORE you begin using the sports and fitness facilities.

  • Do you ever experience pain, pressure, heaviness, or tightness in your chest when you exercise?
  • Do you ever have spells of severe dizziness or episodes of losing consciousness?
  • Has your doctor ever said that you have a heart condition and that you should only do physical activity recommended by a doctor?
  • Do you have a bone or joint problem that could be made worse by a change in your physical activity?
  • Is your doctor currently prescribing medication for your blood pressure or a heart condition?
  • Do you know of any other reason why you should not take part in physical activity?

If your health status changes in the future and you would answer YES to any of the above questions, please consult your doctor before continuing your physical activity plan.

Please note that there is a weight limit of 160kg on all cardiovascular equipment. You should not use this equipment if you exceed this limit.

If you are aware of any medical conditions that may affect your health when exercising, please consult a doctor before using the equipment.

We have first-aid trained staff members working within the facility. If you feel unwell while using the facility, please speak to a member of staff who will assist you accordingly.

We hope you enjoy using the facilities at Hope Park Sports. Please use the facilities responsibly. If you require further information, please contact Reception at Hope Park Sports.
