Creative Writing

This Creative Writing course focuses on developing your craft in poetry, prose, script and screenwriting and professional writing, spanning fiction, creative nonfiction, reviews, blogs, and media writing. You will learn how to produce engaging, innovative, and marketable texts while enhancing your creativity and employability.

English Language

The English Language degree at Liverpool Hope University offers the opportunity to explore the structures, histories, and uses of language in one of the UK’s most linguistically diverse cities. From Liverpool’s distinctive accents and dialects to the bilingual heritage of Chinatown and the Viking influences of the Wirral, the region provides a rich and vibrant backdrop for studying language.

English Literature

Our English Literature degree explores a wide range of genres and historical periods, from fiction, poetry, and drama to autobiography, essays, travel writing, and slave narratives. You’ll study well-known authors as well as new voices offering fresh perspectives on key themes such as sustainability, identity, wellbeing, and power in society.

Global Philosophies & Worldviews

The Global Philosophies and Worldviews course explores big questions of truth, value and what it means to be human in a world-spanning perspective. From African philosophy to Chinese ideas of ethics and the good life; from Hindu explorations of the soul to Islamic political thought; from Jewish existentialism to Buddhist mysticism: these are the traditions that continue to evolve and shape the modern world.

History

Our History degree lets you explore many periods, from the Early Modern era to today. You’ll cover key themes like nationalism, imperialism, colonisation, decolonisation, gender, and identity. The course encourages you to engage with and challenge interpretations, as history is always changing.

International Relations

International Relations is a part of Political Science. It looks at the global system and its effects on politics. Students learn about nation-states, cooperation, conflict, the causes of war, and the rules that keep order and peace. This International Relations course combines history, sociology, anthropology, media, law, and economics.

Media & Communication

At Liverpool Hope, we will help you understand how media connects to society, history, culture, and industry. The course will encourage you to view digital and social media in new ways. You’ll analyse how these platforms have changed traditional communication, and will learn to be an adaptable and professional communicator.

Philosophy & Ethics

The Philosophy and Ethics course at Hope explores life’s biggest questions and the nature of morality: on what basis do we judge things as good or evil? It challenges you to examine your assumptions, opinions, and worldview. Key questions include: Do we need to believe in God for life to have meaning? What does it mean to be human? Do we have free will, or is life determined?

Politics

Politics shapes our lives in many ways. It influences governance, conflict resolution, and our rights. It also impacts our freedoms and access to essential services. This politics course looks at who makes political decisions, how they are made, and their effects on local, national, and global society.

Politics & International Relations

The Politics and International Relations course mixes the study of political ideas with how countries engage on the world stage. It looks at important global issues like globalisation, climate change, and security. It also considers the people and groups working to tackle these problems.

Religion, Theology & Spirituality

The Religion, Theology and Spirituality course at Liverpool Hope offers the opportunity to study ancient wisdom, rituals, and sacred texts while critically engaging with pressing modern debates. You will examine profound ethical and theological questions around life, death, gender, sexuality, evil, suffering, ecology, violence, radicalisation, interfaith dialogue, secularisation, and spirituality in today’s world.
