How can data help us understand a problem, make a prediction or decide what to do next?

BSc (Hons) Data Science and Analytics with AI at Liverpool Hope University brings together mathematics, statistics and computing to help you answer these questions. You will develop practical skills in analysing data while learning the reasoning behind the methods you use.

Drawing on expertise across Mathematics and Computer Science, the course combines programming in Python and R with databases, statistical modelling, data visualisation and machine learning. You will learn to collect and prepare data, identify patterns, build predictive models and assess how much confidence to place in your results. Through machine learning, you will explore how AI methods learn from data and how to evaluate their performance and limitations.

Mathematics and statistics form a substantial part of the degree, giving you the foundations to understand uncertainty and choose appropriate analytical methods. Practical investigations, a group project and an individual dissertation will help you apply your knowledge and explain your findings clearly. You will also consider data quality, privacy, bias and the responsible use of data and AI.

Careers

The course is designed to prepare you for analytical work that combines technical skill with sound judgement. Relevant career directions include data analyst, business intelligence analyst, statistical programmer and data scientist, with opportunities shaped by your interests, experience and the requirements of individual roles.

Your programming, problem-solving and communication skills will be relevant to organisations working with data across business, public services and research. Project work will give you opportunities to demonstrate how you approach a question, evaluate evidence and present a practical outcome, both independently and as part of a team.

The degree will also provide a foundation for postgraduate study in Data Science, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, Applied Mathematics and related subjects. Further study can support progression into more specialised analytical or research careers.

Tuition fees

The tuition fees for the 2026/27 academic year are £9,790 for full-time undergraduate courses.*

If you are a student from the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands, your tuition fees will also be £9,790.

The tuition fees for the 2027/28 academic year will be £10,050 for full-time undergraduate courses.*

If you are a student from the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands, your tuition fees will also be £10,050

The University reserves the right to increase Home and EU Undergraduate and PGCE tuition fees in line with any inflationary or other increase authorised by the Secretary of State for future years of study.

Home students (UK)

*Tuition fees are subject to inflation-linked increases in line with government policy. Updated fees will be confirmed in line with the maximum fee cap set by the Government or the Office for Students (OfS) for each academic year. This means your fee may increase for each academic year of study, but only up to the maximum amount permitted for that year.

Eligible UK students can apply to the Government for a tuition loan, which is paid direct to the University. This has a low interest-rate which is charged from the time the first part of the loan is paid to the University until you have repaid it.
