Music

We work closely with our partner organisations to enhance our teaching and to explore exciting research possibilities. Our major partner is the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra (RLPO). During their time with us, all undergraduate students have the opportunity to study composition and to have their pieces workshopped by members of the RLPO. We have partnerships with The European Opera Centre, Milapfest (Indian Music and Dance), The Beatles Story, and the City’s two cathedrals.

We are housed in the University’s Capstone Building, which is also home to the Capstone Theatre. We are one of only a handful of All-Steinway Music Schools in the UK. We also have specialised teaching spaces, including a suite of electroacoustic facilities, a popular music studies resources centre, and a band room. We own two harpsichords and a chamber organ.

We enjoy a flourishing musical life, with many ensembles and extra-curricular performance opportunities. Students get many performance opportunities, and we run a regular student lunchtime concert series and open-mic nights.
