Student Ambassador delivers campus tour to visitors

Trusted research and innovation is UKRI's work programme designed to support cross-sector campaigns which protect all those working in our thriving and collaborative international research and innovation sector. It is therefore important that you make yourself aware of UKRI's Trusted Research and Innovation Principles, when considered any international research activity.

Trusted Research aims to support the integrity of the system of international research collaboration, which is vital to the continued success of the UK's research and innovation sector. It is particularly relevant to researchers in STEM subjects, dual-use technologies, emerging technologies and commercially sensitive research areas. The advice has been produced in consultation with the research and university community and is designed to help the UK's world-leading research and innovation sector get the most out of international scientific collaboration whilst protecting intellectual property, sensitive research and personal information.

Please use the following link to access the National Protected Security Authority (NPSI) guidance to academics when you are entering into an international research collaboration. This guidance provides a list of things to consider including Export Control, the Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) and the National Security Investment Act 2022.

It is worth also reading the article in Research Professional by the UK's most senior scientific advisor, Angela McLean on her experience of an enquiry from a Chinese researcher to work free of charge in her lab.

If you require guidance and advice please contact the University's Research and Innovation Facilitator.
