How to find material

The A-Z of Collections contains descriptions of those collections not yet catalogued or links to the collection record on Library catalogue, OneSearch, or the archive catalogue, Hope Digital Collections. Some archive collections have digitised content and the originals may be viewed here, and there are also images taken from our rare book collections under Themed Galleries.

Books located in the Radcliffe Collection, the Gradwell Collection or the Andrew F. Walls Centre for the  are housed in Archives & Special Collections. This material is available during the standard Special Collections opening hours, 9am - 4pm, Tuesday to Friday, just drop in, there's no need to make an appointment. Individually-named collections shelved elsewhere in The Sheppard-Worlock Library, can be located using the Map of Special Collections and are openly accessible during library opening hours.

Online Resources are available to help you find archives and special collections in other institutions, and provide tips on how-to use archives in your research.

Reasonable access is provided within a framework of regulations designed to preserve rare, valuable and fragile materials. We aim to enable the widest possible use of our collections by students and staff, however, not everything may be openly accessible. Further information on restricted access can be found in the Collection Care and Conservation Policy under Library Policies. To access the archives and rare books it is necessary to make an appointment to view the material under supervision in the Reading Room.
