Research and Knowledge Exchange

Our intent is to work with academics to engage in research and innovation, and enhance, widen and deepen its impact through greater understanding of impact and connectivity with local, regional and national agencies and industry partners.

Gill Smylie, Research and Innovation Facilitator, is your first port of call for assistance. Gill is based at Hope Park but also provides a weekly drop-in services at the Creative Campus.

Call in on Gill to gain advice, ask a question, share a research idea, identify potential funders or just say hello and introduce yourself.

The following services are available to support Research and Knowledge Exchange activity at Liverpool Hope University:

Research Development

  • supporting researchers to develop high quality research proposals
  • promoting the use of *Research Professional to enable targeted opportunities for research funding
  • facilitating partnerships across the university and beyond
  • providing grant expertise and funder intelligence
  • providing training and professional development opportunities for research staff

Pre-award Services

  • checking and advising on all research funding applications
  • advising academic staff on internal and external funding procedures
  • ensuring compliance with funder terms and conditions
  • training staff on the University's electronic Intent to Apply (ItA) system
  • checking terms and conditions of funding offers
  • formally accepting offers on behalf of the University

Research and Commercial Contracts

You will need a contract if you are working with an external organisation to do your research. This can include charities, businesses, government bodies or other universities.

We will work with the external organisation to agree a contract which takes into account acceptable levels of risk, while protecting academic rights to publish and use their results.

  • collaboration agreements
  • confidentiality agreements
  • consultancy/services agreements
  • subcontracts
  • knowledge transfer partnerships (KTP) agreements
  • MOU (memorandum of Understanding)

Business Partnerships and Knowledge Exchange

  • helping researchers to identify ways to connect with business including the promotion of Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs)
  • facilitating new relationships with business and inter-disciplinary research collaborators
  • supporting the development, implementation, evaluation, and delivery of the University's Research and Knowledge Exchange strategy (Pillar 3)
  • providing a process of continuous improvement in KE at the University with our KE Champions, in line with our approach to the Knowledge Exchange Concordat and the Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF)
  • supporting funding applications for business/external partner related research and help to build a winning bid

Consultancy Services

Facilitate academics to provide expert advice to businesses and organisations on a range of industrial, organisational or commercial issues

For example:

  • Expert advice
  • Feasibility and scoping studies
  • Evaluations and technology audits
  • Routine analysis, testing and validation work
  • Professional practice work, such as law, accounting or social work
  • Reviewing policies and procedures

Intellectual Property Rights

Identifying and protecting the intellectual property rights of your research in partnership with an IP Attorney

Research Policy and Information

  • the University’s Research Excellence Framework (REF) submission
  • supporting academics to create and record the impact of their research
  • creating Agresso reports on research applications and awards
