At Liverpool Hope University, we’re committed to creating a community where everyone is treated with dignity, courtesy, and respect. We condemn all forms of sexual misconduct and harassment, and we’re dedicated to providing a safe and supportive environment where you can thrive academically, socially, and personally.
Sexual misconduct is defined as any unwanted conduct of a sexual nature. It is an umbrella term used to represent a range of related behaviours which can include, but is not limited to, rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment, ‘revenge porn’ or image-based sexual abuse, domestic abuse, stalking, and coercive and controlling behaviour. It does not necessarily have to occur in person (e.g. this can occur online), and is characterised by an absence of consent.
Harassment (as defined by Section 26 of the Equality Act 2010) includes sexual harassment and unwanted behaviour or conduct, which has the purpose or effect of violating a person’s dignity or creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment because of, or connected to, one or more of the following protected characteristics: age; disability; gender reassignment; marriage and civil partnership; pregnancy, maternity; race, religion or belief; sex; sexual orientation. Harassment can be of varying degrees from minor to serious.
We want to build a culture of respect at Hope — one where sexual misconduct and harassment are never tolerated, and where students feel confident in challenging and reporting inappropriate behaviour.
